The guest speaker was Mary Flynn, PhD, Assistant Professor of Medicine (Research) at Brown Medical School. Dr. Flynn spoke on “The Mediterranean Diet: A Model for Health and Weight Management”. |

RIMWA honored Anne S. De Groot, MD, as the 2006 Woman Physician of the Year. The award recognizes a local woman physician who has demonstrated excellence and a high level of commitment to medicine, family, and the community.
Anne S. De Groot, MD, currently serves as the founder and CEO of EpiVax, Inc., a bioinformatics and vaccine design company and is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at Brown Medical School. In addition, Dr. De Groot is the founder and Scientific Director of GAIA (Global Alliance to Immunize against AIDS) Vaccine Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports the development of a globally relevant, globally accessible AIDS vaccine. She is a volunteer physician at the Rhode Island Free Clinic.
Guest speaker was Teresa L. Schraeder, MD, Journalist, the New England Journal of Medicine.
A clinical Fellow in Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Dr. Schraeder spoke on “Medicine and the Media: How the News Impacts Patients, Clinicians, Researchers, and Medical Care”
Eighth Annual Physician Artists Exhibit
May 15-27, 2006
The Rhode Island Medical Women’s Association sponsored the Eighth Annual Physicians Artists Exhibit, May 15-27, 2006. The exhibit consisted of original artwork produced by local physicians.
The exhibit was at the Dryden Galleries Ltd/Providence Picture Frame Co., 27 Dryden Lane, Providence. Gallery hours are 8:30 am to 6:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. The opening night reception was held Monday, May 15, 2006, from 6 to 8 pm.
